Winter Garden

Just out strolling in the garden today and thought I would send some flowers your way...

How is your garden coming?

I have had it with shovelling - especially this last huge wet dump - our driveway and then Allison's walkway and stairs - enough already. My back has really taken a beating this year!!

Moon

It was a spectacular one tonight! It sat there on the horizon like a big fat orange at about 8:15 this evening.
Did you see it?

Monday 25 February 2013

I am taking a break tonight

And going to bed. Way too little sleep and full days at work at BOTH jobs these days. But I am accomplishing a lot!
So here is a photo from the archives.

Eva (because I know you come here to see photos of her) at 7 months old wearing an outfit her mother wore at about the same age.

Hmmm come to think of it, I haven't seen Norah in this outfit yet!

Lost & Found

I went to get the strainer to drain the pasta for supper tonight and was very amused to find this....

I love it when we have constant reminders of Eva's busyness. :)

She has been home 24 hours and I miss her all ready!

But then we went to play Liars Dice tonight with Harold and.... well, the dice were missing from the box.  And no they were not somewhere in the pots n pans because I looked there and in every kitchen drawer under 3 feet from the floor.....and the buffet and both toy boxes and the drawers under the tv and under the couch..... so I am still wondering where she put that cute little bag with 20 mini die in it!

We switched to Wizard. All the parts were there. :)

Cell Phone Etiquette When Dining

I know, we are all a tad addicted to our cell phones and if we only knew exactly how much of our day was spent looking at them/being distracted by them, I think we would be appalled!

Since purchasing my iPhone 5 a few weeks ago I  have found myself all too attached to it. Even at work, my personal emails and Facebook notifications scream 'read me! read me!'  in the midst of my work duties. A couple of days at this and I realized this was eating up a fair chunk of my day - I turned it off. My employer is not paying me to read personal stuff.

But bringing a cell phone to the supper table, except for emergency situations, is downright rude in my humble and honest opinion.

And even more appalling is to look up from your plate while talking to find your dining guest texting. What! Am I THAT boring?

This doesn't just apply at the table either. Any time a group of people are gathered for the purpose of discussing anything, a cell phone going off says to the group "I have someone more important then you to talk to right now" Excusing yourself and leaving the room does not make us feel any less unimportant.

There is a time and place to TURN OFF the Phone.

Unless you are a 2 year old...

Then it is down right adorable!

Eva came for a sleepover last night and then we went out for pancakes this morning. When we finished eating we called her mom to say we were on our way and soooo Eva wanted to chat,
and chat
and chat

She was actually off in her own world chatting away to mom about pancakes and orange juice and Grandma and Grandpa's bed and the fact that she kicked them and kept them awake a good bit of the night (not really that last part).

She got quite comfortable too....

Until Grandpa said times up!!

So what's your take on cell phones at the table, or anywhere people get together face to face to talk
or your take on adorable 2 year olds getting away with it. :)

Portraits of my grand daughter

Eva came for a sleepover tonight. Grandpa and I are exhausted from a busy week with little sleep and hoping for an early night. Eva too is exhausted.. I can tell. I didn't let her sleep this afternoon 10 minutes in the car - that's all.

 I love this photo btw!!

playing the guitar with Grandpa

But mention bedtime and...
things change!

You can't catch me...

yikes! These girl go to bed way too late!

Apple TV

The ladies found ourselves the only ones at Bible study tonight. The men were all working! So we settled in with our fruit and dip and some cake. I asked the ladies if any of them knew how to put on Apple TV so we could watch a Charles Price video.
Heather said she did.
:)

We read from the Psalms.

..that's an apple on top of the tv btw... :)

My Girls.

David and I babysat the girls again last night so their mother could have a few hours out of the house without carrying two little ones and all their paraphernalia back and forth to the car in the snow and ice by herself late at night in the west end of Saskatoon. Her husband is working out of town.
It is rare that she is able to get out of their 500 sq ft house these days. Being a "single" parent for the past year takes it's toll. Shovelling the walk, putting the garbage bin out on the street, getting groceries, sick kids all take on new meaning when you are by yourself 24/7 with 2 little ones. Many hands make light work or in this case 4 more hands ease the burden a little. I worry when she does have to venture out with them, especially at night.

Just love those eyes.

Be My Valentine!!

The girls went out for lunch today!
Grandpa was supposed to join us but work got in the way. He is working WAY too hard these days.

Eva has quite got into the hang of opening presents now. :)
Especially presents from Grandma and Grandpa

 chocolate trumps books any day.....

 ELMO stickers!!!!

And while grandpa missed lunch, he also missed supper last night. Poor guy pulled another 15 hr work day on one apple. Sigh. I will be glad when annual report time is over and he is home again. These 12 hr days 6-7 days a week take a toll on him.

I had an east coast ocean romantic theme supper waiting for him. He missed it and I ate at my computer. :( But no complaints. We will find another night soon and at least I am not surrounded by 4 needy children while he works these hours. :) I have had plenty of years of THAT!!

The Ocean

I love the ocean. Sometimes I wonder why I was born on the cold Canadian prairies when I feel such peace and relaxation by the ocean. The salty air? The gentle sounds of the waves? The power of God's creation there before me in such majesty?
I dream of a little cottage on the ocean - just me, my husband, some good books, a market nearby, early walks at sunrise, falling asleep to the rhythmic sounds of the waves, flush toilets and perhaps internet? :)

Here are some photos I took of the ocean this past January. I took them at about 6am. I used a very slow shutter speed to capture the motion and the depth.
